Sonia Undy Bio

Sonia Undy is a Wiradjuri woman from the First Nations descendants in Griffith NSW. Sonia was taught the traditional art of weaving from one of her closest friends, and has mastered the skills passed on by their elders. The history of our local area had disallowed the practice of weaving due to colonalisation, which also included halting the use of the Wiradjuri language and traditional lifestyles.

Sonia uses her art practice of weaving to reconnect with her ancestors and form strong ties with who she is and where she has come from. As a women from a strong bloodline, Sonia enjoys passing on her knowledge of traditional weaving to others and teaching the importance of community and connection.
